Stool Culture Test Analysis is used to analyse stool samples with the goal of establish if one has been infected by parasites in the digestive tract. A stool culture for pathogenic bacteria is also included.
The test is often used to:
- Identify diseases of the digestive tract, liver, and pancreas and
- Screen for colon cancer by checking for hidden (occult) blood.
- Certain enzymes (such as trypsin or elastase) may be evaluated in the stool to see the pancreas functionality.
- Finding the cause of an infection, such as bacteria, a fungus, or a virus even for parasites, such as pinworms or Giardia.
- Check for poor absorption of nutrients by the digestive tract (mal-absorption syndrome).
